I love the way this card turned out!  (I guess we can say that about our cards, can't we???).  Doesn't this look like the perfect Mother's Day card?  I saw the technique on Patty Bennett's blog and I knew right away I had to try it!

I stamped the rose image on Shimmery White card stock using White Craft Ink.  I then added clear embossing powder and embossed with the heat tool.

I then spritz the entire image with water so that there were pools of water in each petal.  The embossing keeps the water from running into the surround puddles.  I have a pallet that I use when I want to watercolor.  I put drops of reinker in each separate unitusing the colors Cameo Coral, Regal Rose, Pink Pirouette, and Pretty in Pink.  I lightly dipped my watercolor brush (after wetting it with water) in one of the reinkers and lightly touched a different section of the rose each time.  If you add more than one color to a petal, the colors blend very nicely together.

Most of the other cards you've probably seen by now using this technique use a lot of ink and the flowers are bold, bright and beautiful.  I wanted my flower to be light and airy so I was very careful on how much ink I applied.

I let the cardstock dry (it took several hours), cut out the image and mounted it on a lacy paper dolly I found at Wal-Mart.  It's mounted using Stampin' Up! dimensionals.  Though you can't see it in the picture, I scored a line all around the card to give it a framed embossed look.

Recipe:

  • Stamp Set:  Fifth Avenue Flower
  • Paper:  Shimmery White, Pink Pirouette, Urban Garden DSP for the leaves
  • Ink:  White Craft Ink
  • Accessories:  Reinkers (Pretty in Pink, Regal Rose, Cameo Coral, Pink Pirouette), Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Sizzlits Little Leaves, Big Shot, White Organdy Ribbon, Lacy Dolly from Wal-Mart

I'm working on another card using black craft ink and clear embossing powder.  I was not able to finish it for tonight's post but here's a sneak peak.  I'll post it within the next couple of days

This is fabulous! I need to try this technique soon. Your baby-soft colors are sooo sweet & delicate and I love the look with the lace doily!
I can’t wait to see how your yellow rose looks, I was wondering about a darker embossed image. TFS!!
