Classic Cardinals and Berries: A Traditional Christmas Card Design with Stampin’ Up!

By | October 25, 2024

First, start with a Cherry Cobbler cardstock base and layer it with a 1/8″ border of Brushed Gold Cardstock and then with a slightly smaller piece of gold-lined grid paper, from the Regal Distressed Patterns Designer Series Paper. This creates the sophisticated background pattern that frames your main design element.

Next, create the focal point by stamping and coloring two cardinals (one one in Cherry Cobbler and one with Crumb Cake), winter berries in Cherry Cobbler, and pine branches die cut in Garden Green and Brushed Gold Cardstock. Cut the image with the coordinating die from the Wintery Top Dies, then mount it on a Basic White Thick Cardstock rectangular panel. This panel was die cut from the Everyday Details Dies and then embossed with the Snowflake 3D Embossing Folder. Add small yellow enamel dots, from the Gold Textured Adhesive Backed Dots, for subtle sparkle.

Finally, assemble the card by adhering the white panel centrally on the grid background using Stampin’ Dimensionals for depth. Create a simple banner from Basic White Thick cardstock, stamp “MERRY CHRISTMAS” in Tuxedo Black, from the Reindeer Fun Stamp Set, and attach it below the main image.

The winter berries and branches were stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento ink, adding warmth with Cherry Cobbler ink for the plump berries and Crumb Cake for the natural branches. To create a polished, coordinated look, I carried the same grid pattern from the card front onto the envelope flap – it’s those little details that make a handmade card feel extra special.
