The Five Qualities of The Entrepreneurial Mindset

Running a business, especially a home-based business, can be tough.  In order to maximize your chances of success, it’s important to have the right attitude… or entrepreneurial mindset.  Please
understand… ‘attitude’ doesn’t refer to a swagger. Attitude is the consistent and often predictable response to certain situations.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that most entrepreneurs will have the same type of response to similar situations.  So, what are the qualities of the entrepreneurial mindset?

 Perseverance

Simply put… continuing to do what needs to be done.  Most people will focus on something for a short period of time, and then, if they aren’t seeing results, move on to something else.  The problem is, it takes time to build momentum in anything you do, and that momentum is imperceptible at first.  Those who give up never give the momentum a chance to build.  Those who persevere reap the rewards.

Cautious Optimism

Not to be confused with outright optimism, which can blind you to the realities of certain situations, as well as make you vulnerable to being taken advantage of, ‘cautious optimism’ allows you to be optimistic about your business as far as you day-to-day feelings are concerned, but prudent when it comes to actually running your business.

Cautious optimism improves not only your business, but also your personality.  If you’re truly committed to loving what you do, this is a ‘must-have’ quality.

 Decisiveness

This means you take quick and definite action when an opportunity presents itself.  Too often, stamping business owners will sit on an opportunity to long, and ultimately miss out on it.  Decisiveness also means walking away from opportunities you don’t think are right for you
without wasting too much time agonizing over them.  Either way, decisiveness is not the same as haste. Although you should make decisions quickly, you should always think about them carefully.

 Curiosity

The best entrepreneurs are curious individuals.  The reason this is such a powerful quality is because it is a driving force that leads one to seek out new things, or figure out why things are the way they are.

I often say, ‘the opposite of curiosity is complacency,’ and nothing is worse for your business.

 Fearlessness

Often related to decisiveness and cautious optimism, fearlessness allows you to act with no doubt or second-guessing.  This, in turn, means you can act quickly and efficiently.

On the other hand, if you let fear in, you will be frightened into inaction or, worse, make ‘safe’ decisions that are ultimately bad for your business.

If you decide to do something, after giving it proper consideration, you should be able to move forward with no fear.

So… how did you do? If there are qualities you don’t feel you possess, the good news is, you can learn  them all.  Once you commit to changing your mindset, you’d be surprised how easy it
actually is!
